This includes South Holland the Deepings, Goole and Pocklington, and Louth and Horncastle, all of which are facing significant flood risks. The Environment Agency has warned that 91% of buildings within these constituencies are at risk of flooding, and local council bosses have called for improved coastal defences. However, Reform's stance on climate change could exacerbate these risks. The party's deputy leader, Richard Tice, has previously described the idea of human-made climate change as 'garbage', and last year a newly elected Reform UK council abolished a flooding committee in Lincolnshire, despite the country suffering some of its worst flooding in its history in Storm Babet in 2023. This raises a deeper question: are Reform's voters aware of the risks they're taking by supporting the party's climate stance? The party's stance on agriculture could also have serious implications. Farmers in the regions where Reform is gaining momentum have suffered some of the worst harvests in record in the last couple of years, and the party has not set out a clear strategy for supporting the industry in the face of climate change. This could leave farmers vulnerable and exacerbate food security issues. The party's stance on green industries could also have unintended consequences. While Reform voters may be attracted to the party's stance on cost-of-living and immigration, the party's pledge to tax the renewables sector could undermine the very industries that are helping to mitigate climate change. In my opinion, Reform UK's stance on climate change is a recipe for disaster. While the party's rhetoric may be appealing to some, it could leave its voters vulnerable to the very climate change it denies. The party needs to take a more nuanced approach to climate change, one that acknowledges the risks and takes practical steps to mitigate them. Only then can it hope to win over voters without leaving them exposed to the very climate change it denies.
